We invite you to join us for our Fall Partnership Luncheon. This event brings together the local conservation community and representatives of business and civic organizations, along with other friends and supporters.
Executive Director, Calumet Collaborative
Learn about the Calumet Collaborative’s work with Shirley Heinze Land Trust and other partners to advance conservation projects in the region, including a recent Conservation Action Planning process administered by the Collaborative and undertaken by a collective of Calumet Region stakeholders, including Shirley Heinze Land Trust, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, The Nature Conservancy, The Field Museum, Save the Dunes, Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and ArcelorMittal Foundation.
Heinze Trust Executive Director Kristopher Krouse will speak about the organization’s efforts, in collaboration with many partners, to advance land conservation and public access on the East Branch of the Little Calumet River, for which Shirley Heinze Land Trust was recently awarded the 2018 Indiana Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award for Land Use/Conservation.
Also on the agenda is the presentation of this year’s organizational category of the “Bringing Nature Home” Awards. These annual awards, founded by the Friends of Shirley Heinze, recognize local landscaping projects that incorporate native plants. These plants provide a critical source of food, shelter and migration ‘waystations’ for insects, birds and other wildlife, and are an important part of the natural ecosystems of the region.
